Chapter 11.  Working with Others > Document Protection

Document Protection

Excel's Document Protection features enables you to limit the types of changes others can make to a document. There are three types of protection:

  • Protect Sheet protects worksheet components:

    • Contents protects cells from changes.

    • Objects protects objects such as embedded charts and graphic objects from changes.

    • Scenarios protects scenarios from changes. (Scenarios is an advanced feature of Excel not covered in this book.)

  • Protect Workbook protects workbook components:

    • Structure prevents workbook sheets from being inserted, deleted, moved, hidden, unhidden, or renamed.

    • Windows protects workbook windows from being moved, resized, hidden, unhidden, or closed.

  • Protect and Share Workbook enables you to share the workbook but only with change tracking enabled.
