Chapter 1. Getting Started with StarOffi... > Working on the StarOffice Desktop

Working on the StarOffice Desktop

By default, StarOffice provides a view of your Windows desktop (or any other GUI interface provided by your OS). This means that you have access to all the shortcuts or other items that you normally would on the desktop provided by your particular OS. At the very bottom of the desktop, you will find a Start button and a taskbar. The taskbar will provide you with buttons for any open windows that you may have on the desktop, making it very easy for you to switch between various application windows.

The StarOffice Desktop really consists of three major areas. The top of the StarOffice Desktop supplies you with tools such as a menu system and toolbars that you can use to manipulate the Desktop or launch StarOffice applications (by creating or opening a particular document type; in this case, a document means a letter, spreadsheet, presentation, database, etc.).
