Understanding Calc Macros

Macros are basically mini-programs, or scripts, that you can create to automate repetitive tasks. In Calc, you turn on a macro recorder and record your keystrokes and mouse manipulations. These keystrokes and other actions are recorded as scripting calls in StarBasic. Advanced users (those familiar with the StarBasic programming language) can use a macro editor to edit or fine-tune macros that are created. For the purpose of this book, we will look at how to record a macro and play it back.

Even just having the knowledge of how to create a simple macro can reduce the drudgery associated with certain tasks, where you seem to be repeating the same keystrokes or menu selections. Once recorded, a macro can be run with only a couple of clicks of the mouse or it can be added to one of the Calc toolbars or a custom toolbar.
