Chapter 1. What’s New In Illustrator 10 > Integration with the Adobe Family of ...

Integration with the Adobe Family of Products

Illustrator 10 works hand-in-hand with other Adobe products.

  • Photoshop Layers, masks, clipping paths, opacity, and editable text are just some of the features that can move seamlessly between Illustrator and Photoshop. Illustrator also preserves rollover and animation information from linked Photoshop files when cascading style sheets (CSS) are created.

  • GoLive— SmartObjects allows you to place native Illustrator files directly into a GoLive document. Double-clicking the image opens it in Illustrator for editing, and changes are sent back to the GoLive document. Slicing and optimization information can be retained, and it can even be edited right in GoLive.

  • InDesign— InDesign version 2.0 recognizes opacity and effects in Illustrator graphics. For the first time, a major page layout tool can support true transparency. In addition, InDesign is SmartObjects capable, allowing you to place native Illustrator graphics in an InDesign document.

  • AfterEffects— Adobe AfterEffects now recognizes and preserves Illustrator’s layers.

  • AlterCast— Adobe’s new image server software, AlterCast is designed to work with dynamic data-driven graphics.

  • LiveMotion— SWF files and Illustrator files as SmartObjects can be placed in LiveMotion. Files created in Illustrator with blends can be opened in LiveMotion as sequences. (In addition, Illustrator graphics can be exported to Macromedia Flash, including symbols.)
