Troubleshooting

Showing and Hiding

Why is the bounding box sometimes visible and sometimes not?

First, remember that Illustrator uses the bounding box with only the Selection tool and the Free Transform tool. When any other tool is active, the bounding box is not. Second, it’s possible to inadvertently hide the bounding box with the Show/Hide Bounding Box command’s default keyboard shortcut. Shift-Command-B (Shift-Control-B) is very close to the keyboard shortcut for Paste in Back, Command-B (Control-B). You can check to see if the bounding box is hidden by pressing the Command (Control) key to temporarily switch to the Selection tool. Assuming that something is selected on the artboard, the bounding box will be visible while the key is depressed.
