The Transformations

The transform capabilities are spread among seven tools, one palette, and nine menu commands. While there is overlap in what they can do, there are differences in how they do it. For example, you can rotate a selection using the Rotate tool or the Transform palette or the menu command Object, Transform, Rotate. The choice may be one strictly of convenience, or you might need to take advantage of a particular option of one of the techniques. The Rotate tool allows you to set the point of origin anywhere. The Transform palette and the Rotate menu command give you absolutely precise control over the amount of rotation. The menu command allows you to Preview. Which you choose depends upon your situation.

The General Preferences also offers a check box that gives you the option of scaling strokes and effects. The preference’s option is used primarily with scaling done with the Selection tool and the bounding box.
