Chapter 8. Transforming and Distorting O... > Transformations and Distortions In I...

Transformations and Distortions In Illustrator

Illustrator offers a variety of ways to alter the shape of an object or a path. Some are designed for convenience, some for precision, and some are targeted toward creativity. Illustrator 10 adds a couple of major new capabilities to this part of the creation process. The introduction of envelope distortions and the liquify tools open new doors on productivity and artistry.

When a transformation or distortion is applied to a path, open or closed, the anchor points and/or the direction lines for the anchor points are moved. Changing the path will alter not only the appearance of the stroke and fill, but also any effects applied to the selection.
