Dynamic Data-Driven Graphics—Overview

Intended for use in large-scale operations, dynamic data-driven graphics offer the capability to automatically update and replace graphics in a layout. Dynamic data-driven graphics can be used in both Web and print operations. They can require considerable expertise in areas beyond the scope of Illustrator.

Working with dynamic data-driven graphics for the Web requires two types of knowledge. In addition to the designer who creates the layout, a developer is required to code the variables and data sets. Dynamic data-driven graphics is a technology that is designed to be a collaborative effort between designers and developers. Print applications of the technology, on the other hand, can be implemented using a working knowledge of XML and Illustrator automation.
