Chapter 26. Automation Through Actions > Actions in Theory and Practice

Actions in Theory and Practice

Illustrator offers a powerful, yet underutilized, method of streamlining your work and improving efficiency. If you perform a task or series of tasks regularly, it’s probable that Illustrator’s Actions can make your work easier, faster, and even more precise by applying identical values, time after time.

Actions are simply prerecorded steps. You can use them to perform a series of tasks with a single click. Illustrator installs, by default, two dozen Actions, and many more are available free or at minimal cost on the Web. However, the true power of Actions comes to the fore when you write your own custom Actions. You can even share your Actions with others and load their Actions for your own use and customization.
