Improved Web Support

The improvements in Illustrator 9 that can be called “Web-related” span virtually the entire breadth and depth of the program. The new layers' capabilities and their relationship to the Web are explored in Chapter 22, “Designing Web Sites and Web Pages.” Opacity masks can be applied to Web images prior to rasterizing. Transparency, styles, effects, and filters can all be used in the production of cutting-edge graphics.

Many improvements, however, are directly tied to the Web. Illustrator now supports the SWF and SVG formats. Optimization of files in JPEG, GIF, and PNG formats is greatly simplified. Pixel Preview allows you to take a sneak peek at how an image will appear on the Web. Release to Layers eases creation of animations.
