Illustrator's New Transparency

Perhaps the most dreamed-about feature for long-time Illustrator users has been the possibility of creating transparent effects within the program. In the past, the appearance of a shadow either had to be created manually using gradients, or the image had to be exported to Photoshop. Now the effect can be applied in Illustrator.

This is the same type of transparency that's found in Photoshop. Objects behind the semi-transparent object are visible. Objects that fall behind a shadow are visible. You can even move the objects, front or rear, without having to reapply the effect. Figure 1.1 shows some examples of transparency.
