Applying Appearances to Groups and Layers

Just as appearance characteristics can be applied to objects, they also can be applied to groups and layers. By default, any object added to that group or layer is automatically updated to show the appearance characteristics assigned. Conversely, any object removed from a group or layer that has assigned characteristics loses them. As discussed earlier, this is controlled in part by the Appearance palette's menu command Layer/Group Overrides Color. Figure 14.17 shows some of the possibilities when this option is active.
