Clipping Masks

Clipping masks, which can be any shape or size, are created with a menu command. They typically have no stroke or fill. They can be locked or unlocked so that you can reposition the artwork within the mask or the mask in relation to the artwork.

  • Clipping PathsDefine areas of visibility and invisibility. They are paths, and can be edited like those used to create objects.

  • Clipping Masks— The clipping paths in action. A clipping mask is used to reveal and hide portions of an underlying object or objects. Normally, the clipping mask is not visible, consisting of a clipping path or paths with a stroke and fill of None. Multiple clipping paths can be used in one clipping mask.
