Chapter 8. Transforming Objects > Transforming with Tools

Transforming with Tools

Although the Selection tool technically qualifies as a transformation tool because you can use it to move an object, Illustrator includes a specialized set of Transform tools that are placed together in the second section of the Tool palette (see Figure 8.2). Three of them have hidden counterparts. If you find yourself switching back and forth frequently between a tool and its “partner,” you can drag the pair into a separate palette for quick access. All the Transform tools operate the same way—by dragging—and all of them work on whatever objects are selected at the time, whether or not those objects are grouped.

Figure 8.2. The Transform tools can be reached through fly-out menus in the Tool palette or torn off as separate palettes.
