Troubleshooting

Minimizing Banding

How do I eliminate the bands of color that sometimes show up in a transitional color?

Banding occurs when a gradation from one color to another is forced into several distinct colors. The reduction in the number of colors results in grouping of several colors into one. For example, in a 24-bit image, a certain area might transition from light red to medium red to dark red. With a reduction of colors, it all becomes medium red. If the original transition was actually “dark purple–medium purple–light purple–light red–medium red–dark red,” the result could be medium purple and medium red side-by-side.
