Dynamic SVG

SVG promises a tremendous amount of sophistication within the browser. Images can be transformed, animated, linked to mouse or keyboard events, and more. Collectively, these capabilities are referred to as Dynamic SVG.

Warning

Using the advanced features of SVG soon after its finalization will leave many of your viewers out in the cold. The SVG Viewers and browser plug-ins will take some time to fully support the format for all platforms. Additionally, Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh will not allow a plug-in to access the Java engine. Any viewers using IE for Macintosh will not be able to see any part of your SVG creation that relies on JavaScript. And that includes most of the advanced features. Static images (no motion, no interactivity) will display properly, but the millions of iMac and other Macintosh owners who use IE 4 and IE 5 lose all other SVG features.

SWF, on the other hand, is well supported across platforms, and modern browsers automatically install the plug-in.
