Chapter 27. Automation Through Actions > Actions in Theory and Practice

Actions in Theory and Practice

Virtually anything you can do in Illustrator, an Action can do for you. Some Actions are completely automated and can be run while you're away from the computer; other Actions require you to enter specific values for certain procedures. Illustrator also allows you to specify whether to use the values originally recorded with an Action or to pause the Action for you to input new values.

You create, store, organize, and play back Actions by using the Actions palette. You can specify how Actions are played back and can even run them on multiple files sequentially as a batch. Batch processing of a folder of files can even include subfolders.
