Final Thoughts

This technique is applicable to almost any logo with type in it. If you need to re-create such a logo, examine the glyph(s) closely to determine which parts are features of the original typeface.

Even in cases where it would be faster to simply redraw with the Pen tool, there are distinct advantages to using real type. The fact that type can be made into outlines is of course one big advantage. But, outlines cannot be made into type. If you might need real, honest-to-goodness letters and numbers—say, for spell checking—stick with real text.
