Acknowledgments

There are many, many advantages to having a co-author on a book like this one, and one pretty big drawback. I think the advantages are pretty obvious: the whole two-heads-are-better-than-one thing. It has been a great pleasure to work with Matt on this book—and on the many other things we work on together on a day-to-day basis. So, what’s the downside? I only have half a page for my acknowledgments, whereas last time I had a full page. Oh well…

If you’ve read any books that are produced at KW Media, you’ve probably read the author going on and on about how great the team is at KW, but it really is true! I can’t imagine being able to produce high-quality books like this one without our great team (I know I certainly wouldn’t want to try). You people are all CRAZY—and I love you for it. Thanks to Kim Gabriel for her unbelievable scheduling/balancing act routine, to Felix Nelson for always tweaking our designs to make them better, to our newest Technical Editors Cindy Snyder and Kim Doty for jumping right into the fire and making sure everything worked, and to Dave Damstra for once again making things fit and look pretty. My continuing gratitude to Scott Kelby, Kalebra Kelby, and Jean Kendra for convincing me to move to Florida, and for making this such a cool place to work. Mr. Moser, what can I say but thank you sir, again (as you were).

Thanks to the artists who very generously provided artwork for us to use in the book. It is much better as a result of their stunning Illustrator work.

Finally, I need to acknowledge my family for their love and support. As I write this, it’s my 21st wedding anniversary and my 18-year-old daughter is about to head off to college. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long, since every day is like a honeymoon (a honeymoon with two grown kids, I guess). Marlene, you are the love of my life and I look forward to every minute we spend together. Stephanie and Michael, there may be fathers who are prouder of their kids than I am, but I find that hard to believe. You make me smile just thinkin’ about ya. (Yes Cassy, you too). All-in-all, I consider myself one darn lucky guy.

DAVE CROSS

First, I’d like to thank my co-author and boss, Dave Cross, for involving me with this book. Not only is he an all-around great guy but he’s a constant reminder to me of a 100% “class act” in this business. It’s an honor to work with him. I’d also like to thank my co-workers and friends at KW Media Group who, in a short time, have shown me how they continually push the boundaries of quality and excellence in every aspect of this business.

I’d also like to thank the illustrators who have allowed us to use their work in this book and the folks at Adobe, namely Julieanne Kost and Terry White, for quickly getting us up to speed on the latest version of Illustrator. Special thanks go out to the folks at Peachpit Press, as well, for helping me do what I love, which is to train and educate people.

Next, I’d like to thank my family. My mom, dad, brother, and sister have always been a great source of inspiration and support to me. Without you, I’d never have gotten such a great start to such a wonderful life.

Speaking of wonderful lives, my greatest thanks goes to my wife, Diana, and two sons, Ryan and Justin, for making my life the best I could have ever dreamed of. The three of you are the reason I wake up every day, and I can never express my gratitude to you for making me feel like the luckiest husband/dad ever.
