Using Macromedia Fireworks to Edit Graphics

You want to import some pictures for your slide show. As you’ve seen, FreeHand can import many file formats. The format of the imported graphics you use depends on the final destination of your document. For example, in Lesson 7, “Page Layout and Printing,” you imported a TIFF file. In this lesson, you are creating a slide show that will be exported as a Flash movie (a SWF file). For this purpose, you should use JPEG images optimized for the web. FreeHand is not designed to edit images, but Macromedia Fireworks is perfect for this task. The FreeHand application provides a quick link to Fireworks.

If you purchased FreeHand as part of the Studio MX package, you also have Fireworks. If you don’t have Fireworks, you can use the images provided for you that have already been optimized and skip the optimization step, or you can use the trial version of the software included on the CD.
