Lesson 6. Adding Special Effects > Using the Extrude Tool

Using the Extrude Tool

With the Extrude tool, you can simulate three-dimensional (3D) objects. Extruded objects have the appearance of 3D objects, but you can still edit the original 2D objects you used to create the extrusion. You can set the extrusion amount, control the light from two light sources, and change the shading, among other settings. You set the extrude amount by dragging the object with the Extrude tool. If you drag a square with the tool, a box shape appears; if you drag a circle, the shape becomes a cylinder.

In this task, you will use the Extrude tool to add a 3D effect to some text. Later you will use the Extrude tool on a star and then twist the extruded area to create a special effect.
