Chapter 3. The Artboard

Decisions, decisions! When you first open Illustrator 10, you've got all your tools ready, but no document to start working on. Right away you need to make some decisions about your artwork. Some of these decisions are easy; others may confuse you. This chapter shows you how to tackle them all.

Because every illustration begins as a new document—even existing drawings were new once—I explain the first option in this chapter. You'll also learn everything you need to know about modifying the artboard, specifying the size of pages for print, magnifying your drawing, and changing the way your illustration looks on screen. For the lowdown on opening existing files and several other exciting topics, I enthusiastically refer you to Chapter 4.
