Transparency and Flattening

Now that you know how to use transparency in all its various capacities, you're ready to understand the more technical aspects of this effect and the instances where transparency cannot be preserved.

As I stated in the beginning of the chapter, Illustrator supports native transparency. Since it is now based on core PDF architecture, rather than PostScript, transparency exists as a live, editable attribute. But, unfortunately, there are some circumstances where transparency is limited, or even more unfortunate, where it can't be retained at all.
