Opacity

Although most people call transparency the ability to see through an object, Adobe uses the term transparency as the overall category for a whole host of features. So what most people call transparency, Adobe calls opacity. Strictly speaking, you don't make an object transparent; you lower the opacity of the object.

Lowering Opacity

Changing an object's opacity is very simple. You select the object, and then use the Opacity control in the Transparency palette to lower the opacity. If you don't see the Transparency palette, choose Window » Transparency.
