Defining the Graph Size with the Graph Tool

Any graphing tool's main purpose is to determine the rectangular dimensions of a chart. You draw with a graphing tool just as if you were drawing with the rectangle tool. In other words, you can avail yourself of any of these techniques.

  • Drag to draw the chart boundary from corner to corner.

  • Alt-drag (Option-drag on the Mac) to draw the boundary from center to corner.

  • Shift-drag or Alt+Shift-drag (Option-Shift-drag on the Mac) to draw a square boundary.

  • Click to display the tiny Graph dialog box, which contains Width and Height option boxes. Enter the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the desired chart and press Enter (Return on the Mac). The click point becomes the upper-left corner of the chart boundary.

  • Alt-click (Option-click on the Mac) with the graph tool and enter the numeric dimensions if you want the click point to serve as the center of the graph.
