Preparing a New Illustration

Preparing a new illustration is not that different from most other things in life. Good planning often leads to success. The following sections explain the options available to you for setting up your illustration, so you can plan accordingly.

Creating a New Document

When you choose File » New or press Ctrl+N (Cmd-N on the Mac) you are confronted by the New Document dialog box, shown in Figure 3.1, which requires you to make some basic decisions about your illustration. But don't worry, any choices you make here can be changed easily later on. Besides, the following few subsections provide a blow-by-blow account of how to deal with the various options in the New Document dialog box.
