Working with Styles

Now that you're on friendly terms with the inner workings of effects, let's crank it up a notch and get cozy with styles. Styles allow you to save all the attributes of an object—fills, strokes, transparency, effects, and all the other appearance attributes—into a single style that can be applied quickly to other objects. Think of styles as uber-swatches that can define all attributes of an object. Styles also allow you to change the attributes of many objects by changing the definition of the style. All the styled objects—selected or not—update to the new definition.

Defining a Style

It's very simple to define the attributes of a style. Simply select an object and make it look the way you want. Make sure the Styles palette is visible by choosing Window » Styles. The Styles palette appears as shown in Figure 19.9.
