Chapter 19. Hog-Wild Special Effects > Live Effects and the Appearance Palette ...

Live Effects and the Appearance Palette 101

Now that you have one effect under your belt, it's a good time to look at some of the methods you need to know when dealing with live effects such as the twist effect. In return for the freedom to change and delete these effects, you need to pay careful attention to the status of some palettes and features that haven't been covered before. Live effects are extremely powerful, and if they're new to you, get ready to start thinking in entirely new ways about how your artwork should be prepared.

Another important advantage to working with effects is that all effects can be made part of Illustrator's Styles. Styles mean that instead of selecting an object and painstakingly applying very complicated settings, you can simply click in the Styles palette and the effect instantly appears. Not only that, but if you change the settings of the style, all the objects that have that style applied will also change. I'll cover styles later in this chapter.
