Creating and Using Custom Guides

Another way to align objects is to establish a system of guidelines (or just plain guides). These are special kinds of paths that appear as dotted or solid lines onscreen but never print. You can choose the form and color that your guides take in the Guides & Grid Preferences dialog box. Assuming the Snap to Point option is turned on in the General Preferences dialog box, your cursor aligns to the guide anytime you drag within two pixels of it. Unlike standard paths, your cursor snaps to any position along the outline of a guide, regardless of the placement of anchor points.
