Chapter 15. Special Effects

Chapter 15. Special Effects

Previous chapters showed you how to transform objects by duplicating, skewing, grouping, blending, and filling them with patterns and color. This chapter shows you how to use what you've learned in combination with some new tools to create exciting special effects. Now that you know the basics, you'll find that these effects aren't hard to do—and they'll add a professional touch to your drawings. As you read this chapter, don't hesitate to experiment. If you think a technique you learned previously might add an interesting effect, try it out.

In this chapter, you'll learn how to create the following effects:

  • Use the Interactive Envelope Tool to create envelopes (containers that distort an object's shape)

  • Use the Interactive Blend Tool to morph one object into another

  • Add perspective to objects and create 3D, shadowed objects

  • Use the Interactive Transparency Tool to make objects you can see through

  • Use the Interactive Distortion Tool to stretch and reshape objects

  • Use the Interactive Contour Tool to add contour lines to an object

  • Use an object as a special-effects lens when placed over another object
