Get around

To move an illustration in its window using the Hand tool:

Click any of the scroll arrows on the edge of the document window.

Choose the Hand tool (H) (or hold down Spacebar to turn any other tool into the Hand tool temporarily), then drag the illustration to the desired position .

  • Double-click the Hand tool to fit the entire artboard in the document window.

To move the illustration in its window using the Navigator palette:

  • To change the color of the view box frame from its default red, choose Palette Options from the Navigator palette menu, then choose a preset color from the Color pop-up menu or double-click the color swatch and choose a color from the Color Picker. Check “Draw dashed lines as solid lines” if you want dashed lines to display as solid lines on the palette.

  • The proportions of the view box match the proportions of the document window. Resize the document window and you'll see what we mean.

  • The Navigator palette will display multiple pages, if any, and tiling of the imageable area.

  • To halt a slow screen redraw on Mac OS, press Cmd-. (period). On Windows, press Esc. The display will change to Outline view. Choose View > Preview (Cmd-Y/ Ctrl-Y) to restart the redraw.
