Chapter 13. Style & Edit Type

Chapter 13. Style & Edit Type

In this chapter, first you will learn how to select type. Then you will learn how to use the Character palette to apply character-based typographic attributes (font, size, leading, kerning, tracking, baseline shift, horizontal scaling, and vertical scaling) and the Paragraph palette to apply paragraph-wide attributes (align ment, indentation, inter-paragraph spacing, hanging punctuation, word spacing, and letter spacing).

You'll also learn how to use Illustrator's word processing features to check spelling, export text, and find and replace fonts or text; create text rows and columns; apply professional typesetter's marks; turn on hyphenation; and apply tabs. And finally, you'll learn a few nifty tricks, such as how to sample and apply type attributes using the Eyedropper and Paint Bucket tools, wrap text around an object, create type with a shadow, and create slanted type.
