Chapter 8. Reshape > Averaging points

Averaging points

The Average command reshapes one or more paths by precisely realigning their endpoints or anchor points along the horizontal and/or vertical axis.

To average points:

1.
Choose the Direct-selection tool (A) or Direct-select Lasso tool (Q).

2.
Shift-click or marquee two or more anchor points . They can be on different paths.

Choose Object > Path > Average (Cmd-Option-J/Ctrl-Alt-J).

or

Control-click/Right-click on the art-board and choose Average from the context menu.

4.
Click Horizontal to align the points along the horizontal (x) axis . Points will move vertically.

or

Click Vertical to align the points along the vertical (y) axis. Points will move horizontally.

or

Click Both to overlap the points along both the horizontal and vertical axes. Choose this option if you're going to join them into one point (instructions on the following page).

5.
Click OK .
