Chapter 8. Reshape > Deleting points

Deleting points

Note: If you want to use the Pen tool to delete points from a path, make sure the Disable Auto Add/Delete box is unchecked in Edit > Preferences > General. Then all you have to do to delete a point is click on it.

To delete anchor points from a path:

1.
Choose the Delete-anchor-point tool (-). It's on the Pen tool pop-out menu.

or

Choose the Pen tool (P).

Cmd-click/Ctrl-click the edge of the object from which you want to delete anchor points.

Click an anchor point (don't press Delete!). The point will be deleted and an adjacent point will become selected . Repeat to delete other anchor points, if desired.

  • Hold down Shift to disable the add/delete function of the Pen tool. Release Shift before releasing the mouse button.

  • If you don't click precisely on an anchor point with the Delete-anchor-point tool, you'll either hear a beep (if Disable Warnings is checked in General Prefer-ences) or a prompt will appear (if Disable Warnings is unchecked). You can use Smart Guides (Text Label Hints option) to help you find anchor points.
