Drawing geometric objects

To create a rectangle or an ellipse by dragging:

1.
Choose the Rectangle tool (M) or the Ellipse tool (L).

2.
Drag diagonally . As you drag, you'll see a wire frame representation of the rectangle or oval. When you release the mouse, the rectangle or oval will be selected, and it will be colored with the current fill and stroke settings (Preview view).

  • To create a series of perfectly aligned, equal-size rectangles, create and select a rectangle, then use Type > Rows & Columns (see page 238).

To create a rectangle or an ellipse by specifying dimensions:

1.
Choose the Rectangle tool (M) or the Ellipse tool (L).

2.
Click on the artboard where you want the object to appear.

3.
In the Rectangle or Ellipse dialog box, enter dimensions in the Width and Height fields . To create a circle or a square, enter a number in the Width field, then click the word Height (or vice versa)—the value in one field will copy into the other field.

4.
Click OK.

  • Values in dialog boxes are displayed in the measurement units currently chosen from the Setup: Units pop-up menu in File > Document Setup.
