Chapter 24. Actions > To process multiple files or folders:

To process multiple files or folders:

1.
Make sure all the files for batch processing are located in one folder. The folder can contain subfolders, but only one main folder can be chosen at a time.

2.
From the Actions palette menu, choose Batch.

3.
Choose a set from the Set pop-up menu and an action from the Action pop-up menu.

4.
Choose Source: Folder, click Choose, then locate the folder that contains the files you want to process.

Check Override Action “Open” Commands to open files from the chosen folder, thus ignoring any Open commands in the recorded action.

Check Include All Subdirectories if you want to process folders within the folder you've chosen.

Note: For information about working with data sets as the source, refer to the Illustrator User Guide.

5.
Choose Destination: None to have the files remain open after processing; or Save and Close to have the edited files be saved over and closed; or Folder to have the files save to a new folder (click Choose to specify the destination folder).

6.
Optional: If you chose Folder for Destination, check Override Action “Save” Commands to have the files save to the folder designated in step 5, should a Save command occur in the action.

7.
Check Override Action “Export” Commands to override any Export command destination used in the action (click Choose to specify the new destination folder).

8.
Optional: By default, Illustrator will stop the batch process if it encounters an error. If you choose Error: Log Errors to File, the batch process will continue and error messages will be sent to a text file. Click Save As, then give the error log file a name and destination. If this option is chosen, an alert message will inform you of any errors.
