In this lesson, you'll learn to use the four brush types in the Brushes palette, including how to change brush options and how to create your own brushes. Before you begin, you'll need to restore the default preferences for Adobe Illustrator. Then you'll open the finished art file for this lesson to see what you'll create.
1. | To ensure that the tools and palettes function exactly as described in this lesson, delete or deactivate (by renaming) the Adobe Illustrator 10.0 preferences file. See “Restoring default preferences” on page 4. |
2. | Start Adobe Illustrator. |
3. | Choose File > Open, and open the L5end.ai file in the Lesson05 folder, located inside the Lessons folder in the AICIB folder on your hard drive. |
4. | If you like, choose View > Zoom Out to make the finished artwork smaller, adjust the window size, and leave it on your screen as you work. (Use the hand tool ( To begin working, you'll open an existing art file set up with guides to draw the artwork. |
5. | Choose File > Open to open the L5start.ai file in the Lesson05 folder inside the AICIB folder on your hard drive. |
6. | Choose File > Save As, name the file Brushes.ai, and select the Lesson05 folder. Leave the Format option set to Adobe Illustrator® Document, and click Save. In the Illustrator Native Format Options dialog box, select Illustrator 10 Compatibility and click OK. |
