Chapter 24. XTRA TOOLS > Working with the Shadow Tool

Working with the Shadow Tool

A more sophisticated version of the Smudge tool is the Shadow tool.

To apply a shadow:

1.
Select the object or objects you want to modify.

2.
Double-click the Shadow tool in the Xtra Tools toolbar 13. This opens the Shadow dialog box 14.

3.
Choose one of the following from the Type menu:

  • Hard Edge uses a single object to create a crisp shadow.

  • Soft Edge uses a blend to create a shadow with a uniform soft edge.

  • Zoom creates a blend that is positioned to create a 3D effect.

4.
Choose one of the following from the Fill menu:

  • Color lets you choose a specific color for the shadow.

  • Shade creates a shadow color that is a darker color of the original object.

  • Tint creates a shadow that is a lighter color of the original object.

5.
Use the slider for the Color and Tint fills to adjust the lightness or darkness of the shadow.

6.
Use the Scale slider to set the size of the shadow element.

TIP

Less than 100% makes a shadow that is smaller than the original. Greater than 100% makes a shadow that is larger than the original.

7.
Set the x and y offset amounts to position the shadow away from the original.

8.
Click OK. The shadow is applied to the object 15.
