Lesson 11. Creating Airbrush Effects > Setting Smart Guides preferences

Setting Smart Guides preferences

Smart Guides are useful for working with mesh objects because they display information about the mesh without the need to select the object first. You'll set preferences for hiding the construction guides (which are useful for drawing and aligning objects) and text labels (which you won't need for this lesson), and you'll change the snapping tolerance (the distance that the pointer must be from an object before Smart Guides take effect).

Choose Edit > Preferences > Smart Guides.

In the Preferences dialog box, deselect the display options for Text Label Hints and Construction Guides, and make sure that Transform Tools and Object Highlighting are selected. Type 1 pt in the Snapping Tolerance text box. Click OK to set the preferences.

The Transform Tools option is useful for scaling, rotating, reflecting, and shearing objects. The Object Highlighting option displays mesh lines and anchor points when the mouse is positioned over the object.

Choose View > Smart Guides to activate them. (A check mark in the menu indicates that they're turned on.)
