A Quick Tour of Adobe Illustrator > Scaling and rotating objects

Scaling and rotating objects

You can easily scale, rotate, and shear objects—either by dragging or by specifying precise values. Now you'll scale and rotate the book to enlarge it and turn it at an angle.

To scale the book, first click the book to select its bounding box. Then hold down Shift and slowly drag the bottom right corner of the bounding box about halfway to the napkin.

Holding down Shift as you drag increases the size of the book proportionally while keeping the left side of the book in its original position.

To rotate the book, move the cursor down to the bottom right corner of the book, just outside the bounding box. (The pointer changes from a scale symbol to a rotate symbol.) Press the mouse button and drag the pointer down and to the left to rotate the book in a clockwise direction.

Choose Edit > Deselect All to deselect the artwork, and then choose File > Save.
