Computing on the Run Kicks into High Gear

Although mobile computing has been greatly enhanced by the advent of a number of wireless connectivity strategies, as well as the proliferation of handheld computing devices such as the Palm Pilot and the PocketPC, I certainly don't think this market is even close to approaching maturity. Wireless technology providers are still scrambling to increase their service areas, and applications for handheld computers (and the handheld computers, themselves) are still evolving.

So, in the case of handheld computing on the run, I think we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. As more wireless providers enter the market, the ability to connect a handheld computer to a network via a modem or some other wireless connection is going to become much more available. Also, I don't think we've seen how far the capabilities of handheld computers can be taken, because we currently consider them little more than electronic day planners and address books.
