Chapter 7. Sharing Printers and Other Pe... > Printing to a Shared Printer

Printing to a Shared Printer

After you’ve shared a printer on the network, you need to set up each computer on your network to be able to print to it. On each Windows computer, simply run the Add Printer Wizard and follow the instructions for adding a network printer. Once the printer is set up, an icon for that printer will appear in the Printers window. The programs on that computer can then print to the shared printer just as if the shared printer were physically attached to the computer.

In this exercise, you have already set up and shared a printer on your Windows XP computer. In addition, you have installed the printer drivers for the Windows 98 Second Edition computers on the Windows XP computer. You will now set up a Windows 98 Second Edition computer so that it can print to the shared printer, and then you’ll print a test document on that printer, confirm that the shared printer is set up properly, and print a document over the network using a Windows 98 Second Edition computer.
