Chapter 2. Connecting Your Computers Together > Considering Internet Security

Considering Internet Security

If you plan to use the Internet with your network, you should make sure that your Internet connection is secure from intruders. The way in which you secure your connection depends in part on the way that you connect your home network to the Internet. If you use Windows XP and Internet Connection Sharing to connect to the Internet, the firewall built into Windows XP is your best bet. This firewall is turned on automatically when you run the Network Setup Wizard.

Tip

For a detailed description of the various types of online threats and how to guard against them, see the book Protect Yourself Online by Matthew Danda (Microsoft Press, 2001).
