Connecting Two Computers Directly

Sometimes you might want to connect just two computers together to quickly transfer data. Windows XP supports three common ways of making a direct connection:

  • Infrared connection This method requires that both computers have infrared (IR) ports. This method is a great solution for laptop computers that have built-in IR ports.

  • Direct cable connection This method requires a serial or parallel cable.

  • Ethernet This method requires Ethernet adapters to be installed in both computers, and an Ethernet crossover cable to connect them.
