Choosing a Type of Network

The first step in creating a home network is to decide what type of network to use, and the second is to install the necessary network hardware. Once you’ve completed these two tasks, you can set up the Windows XP network software and begin to use your network.

If you’ve ever walked down the networking aisle of your favorite computer store, you have probably seen a wide variety of network adapters, network media (such as cables), and network kits. It can get confusing trying to sort them all out. To help you choose among the different types of networks, take a moment to consider the following questions:
