Using Remote Assistance to Help Another Person

The Remote Assistance feature built into Windows Messenger makes it easy to help others who are having problems with their computers, or to ask for a contact to help you. If you’ve ever had to talk someone through fixing a computer problem over the phone, you will really appreciate this feature. You can even restart someone else’s computer!

In this exercise, you and your spouse are working on separate Windows XP computers in different rooms in your house. Your spouse would like to change the amount of time that elapses before the screen saver appears, but he or she can’t remember how. You are both signed in to Windows Messenger. You will now take control of your spouse’s computer by using Windows Messenger’s Remote Assistance feature, and you will then change the screen saver setting. Assuming that you have already opened the Windows Messenger window and initiated a conversation with your spouse, complete the following steps:
