About the Authors

Matthew Danda is a computer consultant with a passion for absorbing convoluted technical information and then communicating it in terms that people can understand. His areas of specialty include network administration, Internet security and privacy, and software requirements analysis. When he’s not in front of the computer, Matthew is usually training for another marathon or hanging out with his wife, Caroline. He is also the author of Protect Yourself Online (Microsoft Press, 2001) and lives in Prairie Village, Kansas. You can reach Matthew at mdanda@secnetgroup.com.

For the past seven years Heather Brown has worked at Microsoft Corporation, explaining complex technology in simple terms. Her newest challenge is making home networking both interesting and attainable to her mother. From this challenge came the idea of writing a step-by-step book for all the “moms” (and other nontechies) who want to take this next step in their mastery of computers. Besides meeting the needs of many people with this book, Heather hopes to reduce the amount of time she spends on the phone helping her family and friends figure out why “my printer in the other room won’t work.” In her spare time Heather is restoring a classic Lincoln Continental and remodeling her house. When she isn’t “under the hood” in the shop out back, you can reach Heather at HeatherTBrown@hotmail.com.
