Chapter 7. Taking It on the Road

In this age of the Internet, being out of touch while traveling feels incredibly frustrating. Cell phones help, certainly. But for many of us, email forms the hub for most of our communications. And, since our customers, clients, colleagues, or friends and family often don't realize that we are traveling, they expect us to check our email as frequently as we normally do.

That's difficult when you're in an airplane—or at least expensive; we've never been able to swallow the cost of dialing an ISP from an in-seat phone. But once you touch down, you may be able to find a wireless network you can use to access the Internet and check your email, visit any necessary Web sites, or even touch base with someone via instant messaging.
