Buying a Wireless Gateway

A Wi-Fi access point technically handles only the tasks related to letting clients associate with it and sending data back and forth among wireless devices. Everything else is extra, but it's those extras that, of course, help you decide which precise piece of equipment you need.

Most office-oriented access points feature tie-ins for security and authentication, so systems already in place can allow users access to the rest of the network. The office network has firewall, dynamic address assignment, and other software to manage and protect the entire network.
