It's tempting when you're setting up a network to buy the pieces you think you need and plug them all together. Resist that temptation!

Putting a little effort up front into a network diagram clarifies exactly what you need to buy, reveals mistakes you might be about to make, ensures you won't forget some essential piece, and generally smoothes the entire process.
